Sound takes the easiest way through, and a gap lets far more through than the door itself. The kit: one door strip and two rolls of seal.

Will it fit my door?
Under the door
The strip is 1 m long, so it covers any standard UK internal door, cut to width with scissors. If you can see light under the door, it closes that gap.
Round the frame and window
Gaps differ, so you get two thicknesses, 10 m of each. Shut the door or window on a sheet of paper: if it slides out easily, use the thick seal; if it grips, use the thin one.
Not sure?
If the gap under your door is wider than a finger, email a photo to hello@hallhush.co.uk before you order and we'll tell you honestly whether it will work.
What it does, and what it won't
It helps with
- Voices and phone calls in the corridor
- TVs and music from a shared hall
- Light and draughts under the door
It won't fix
- Footsteps from the floor above
- Bass coming through walls
- Noise through the wall itself
We'd rather tell you now. Sealing gaps takes the edge off. It is not soundproofing.
Fitting takes about 10 minutes
- Clean. Wipe the bottom of the door and the frame stop with a dry cloth.
- Cut to length. Trim with scissors, peel the backing and press firmly.
- Check it closes. The door should still close and latch on its own.
Questions
Is it safe on a fire door?
Fire doors (common in flats and shared houses) have a fire and smoke seal in the frame or the door edge. Never cover or block that seal, and don't fit frame seal on a fire door at all. The door must still close and latch on its own. The door-bottom strip sticks to the face of the door and moves with it, so it doesn't sit loose under the door. Fit it so the lip just touches the floor, and check the door still self-closes. If you're not sure whether your door is a fire door, ask your landlord before fitting.
Will it damage the paint?
The strips use a peel-off adhesive. Test a small piece somewhere hidden first. On fresh or flaky paint, any tape can lift paint, so peel slowly at a low angle when you move out.
Will my landlord know?
There's nothing to drill or screw. The strips peel off when you move out. Test a small piece somewhere hidden first, because on fresh or flaky paint any adhesive can lift paint.
How much quieter will it be?
That depends on how big your gaps are. Doors with a visible gap underneath usually notice the biggest change. It takes the edge off. It won't make a room silent.
