Fitting guide

About 10 minutes. You need scissors and a dry cloth.

Fire doors first. If your door has a fire and smoke seal (a strip in the frame or the door edge, often with a label), never cover or block it, and don't fit the frame seal on that door. Fit the under-door strip only, and check the door still closes and latches on its own. Not sure? Ask your landlord before fitting.

Which seal goes where (10 seconds)

Your kit has a thick seal and a thin seal. Shut the door (or window) on a sheet of paper and pull it. Slides out easily: the gap is big, so use the thick seal there. Grips or tears: the gap is small, so use the thin seal. Check each side, because one side of a frame is often wider than the other. If the door won't latch after fitting, that side needs the thinner seal.

1. Under the door

Close the door. On the room side, wipe the bottom of the door face with a dry cloth. Cut the strip to the width of the door with scissors. Peel the backing and press the strip along the bottom of the door face so the soft lip just touches the floor. Open and close the door: it should move freely and still latch.

2. Round the frame

Close the door and look for light round the edges. Wipe the frame stop (the strip the door closes against). Peel and press the frame seal along the sides and top of the stop, without stretching it. Cut it with scissors at the corners. If the door won't latch afterwards, the seal is too thick for that gap: swap that side to the thin seal.

3. Window

Wipe the frame where the window closes. Use the paper test to pick the thick or thin seal, then peel and press it along the frame and check the window still shuts and locks.

Taking it off

Peel slowly at a low angle. Any leftover adhesive comes off with a little washing-up liquid and warm water. Test somewhere hidden first on fresh or flaky paint.
